November 20, 2022,

It is easy to root for her, even if you are not rooting against Julia Budd.

Aspen Ladd’s story continues to fascinate, resonate, especially for those of us who desire and need second chances in life.

Aspen is an American professional mixed martial artist who is now competing in the Featherweight division of Professional Fighters League (PFL).

A professional since 2015, our Nor Cal star started her professional mixed martial arts career in Invicta FC before competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the Bantamweight division.

Following an amateur run of 8–1, which included 6 finishes, Ms. Ladd signed with Invicta FC in late 2014.

She would continue her winning ways and later signed with the elite UFC but continual issues regarding making weight become an issue.

A major one.

After missing weight for the third time in her UFC career leading to a fight cancellation, Ms. Ladd was released from the UFC.

Post UFC release, it was announced on October 4, 2022 that Aspen had signed with the Professional Fighters League and would compete in the featherweight division the next year.

The team at bloodyelbow.com reported, “The recent PFL signee will compete in the soon-to-be-announced women’s featherweight division and share the SmartCage with Julia Budd at the 2022 PFL Championships set for Nov. 25 at Hulu Theater in New York City.”

Certainly looking forward to that one.

This is a great preview video from Aspen regarding her preparation for Julia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbsuFp11vl8

Some of the points that she makes and very understandable, in her previous scheduling prior to signing with the PFL, she was always on call, sometimes not fighting for four months and then gets contacted and has to be ready in two weeks. Who would like that?

No wonder it was hard to make weight.

What she likes about the PFL is that it is a seasonal format so you have time to prepare for your scheduled match. Completely get that. She doesn’t have to starve herself 24 seven to make weight and now she can actually start lifting weights again to get stronger.

Many comments online appear to support her. Here is one:

“People need to chill out and give Aspen Ladd a break. It’s not like she was trying to miss weight on purpose, it’s just she was struggling with it. It’s not easy technically.”

One more.

“A lot people just criticize these human beings without even having experienced what these fighters go through. The only workout a lot people get on here is when typing their negativity.”

Hey, no negativity here.

Aspen will need all of the positivity she can get because Julia Budd is one tough fighter.

Once the reasons are out the way (excuses) for any fighter’s previous challenges, the question becomes, can you make good on your new situation?

Before her showdown fight with super star Kayla Harrison, here is what FCI Women’s Wrestling Magazine had to say about Ms. Budd, “She has made the most of her chances so this is not necessarily a second chance.

Julia Budd signing with the Professional Fighters League is a new beginning, for both of them.

Bright and shining.

Julia Budd is a Canadian kickboxer and mixed martial artist competing in the Women’s Lightweight division of Professional Fighters League (PFL).

She has fought in MMA promotions Strikeforce and Invicta Fighting Championships and is the first and former Bellator Women’s Featherweight world champion.

Ms. Budd is currently the #3-ranked 145-pound female MMA fighter in the world according to the Unified Women’s MMA Rankings.

Julia practiced Muay Thai for many years and later became the only woman to defeat American Gina Carano in Muay Thai competition.”

At 39, Julia appears to approaching the end of her career and a solid victory over Aspen could begin her exit with a bang.

In other PFL news, they continue to expand their media presence.
