February 6, 2023,

As a female athlete, trained in MMA, which when would you prefer to compete?

At a moment’s notice or during a season where you know when your upcoming fight is and who you will be fighting?

For most, at least according to research, they prefer the latter.

Aspen Ladd sure does, after missing weight requirements in the mighty UFC, who eventually released her. It is tough to make weight when you get a last minute notice that your fight is next month.

Aspen Ladd is sure ready to make whatever it takes to fight PFL super star Kayla Harrison who shockingly lost to Larissa Pacheco, who previously lost to Kayla twice.

The bout was one of six weight division PFL season championship finals fought inside the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden is a theater located in New York City’s Madison Square Garden. It seats between 2,000 and 5,600, and is used for concerts, shows, sports, meetings, and other events. It is located beneath the main Madison Square Garden arena that hosts MSG’s larger events.

Aspen defeated Julia Budd.

Who was previously defeated by Kayla Harrison.

Why not ask to fight Larrisa Pacheco?

In regards to Julia Budd, the former Bellator standout, this was a fight that she and Aspen really needed to win.

Part of the reason that Kayla’s loss was not only a shocker but a wrench in the well-oiled PFL-Harrison partnership was what the two planned to do in the future. According to ESPN, “She and the PFL were already making plans for next year, removing her from regular-season competition in order to book her in “superfights,” presumably with a step up in competition. Pacheco might have spoiled those plans.”

Indeed.

Life happens when you’re busy making other plans.

Kayla was the PFL’s highest paid female star but now, even that could change.

According to mmafighting.com, “It’s not their business model anymore. Why pay Harrison $1 million a fight when they can sign someone off the Contender Series to a $10K and $10K contract? ESPN pays them the same lump sum for events, so that’s just burning $980K instead of keeping that revenue.”

Interesting. Did not know that.

Fascinating actually compared to what the PFL was paying out before.

The article goes on to relate that a Kayla Harrison vs Cris Cyborg super fight is most likely not going to happen.

The ramifications of losing can be devastating not to mention that Harrison was reportedly an 8-1 odds favorite to win the fight. Some bettors lost a lot of money on the other end.

While the dynamic emerging PFL is not yet the size of the mighty UFC, in our opinion, we love their format and their passion. They keep forming new alliances and partnerships.

Now they are forming another one.
