April 19, 2023,

Newer female grapplers, finding themselves in tough with a veteran, sometimes need to think outside the box, in terms of their offense.

As the match begins, if you stay with hand fighting and wrist grabbing, she is most likely going to out fox and out skill you. This is something she may have done 30-40 times before.

Possibly more.

You have not.

In these situations, perhaps it is best to change things up and not fight to her strengths.

Instead, create opportunities.

One way to catch her by surprise and move her out of her comfort zone is to fake a commitment to the upper body hand fighting and lunge at her neck area, trying to secure a headlock. In doing so, try and avoid the floor (you on your back) to sitting or kneeling body scissor because if you don’t secure the hold, she is right on top of you.

A perfect example of the underdog forsaking the initial hand fighting and lunging for the headlock takedown was when Hungary’s Dolly met Germany’s Warrior Amazon. Her decision to innovate kept this match very close, especially in the beginning, when she almost secured a submission against a larger girl.

Time to take a closer look at the lunge.

A lunge can refer to any position of the human body where one leg is positioned forward with knee bent and foot flat on the ground while the other leg is positioned behind.

Lunges are a good exercise for strengthening, sculpting and building several muscles/muscle groups, including the quadriceps (or thighs), the gluteus maximus (or buttocks) as well as the hamstrings.

A long lunge emphasizes the use of the glutes whereas a short lunge emphasizes the quadriceps. The lunge is a basic movement that is fairly simple to do for beginner athletes.

A lunge can be performed using bodyweight alone. However, weight trainers may seek to increase the difficulty using either dumbbells or kettlebells held in each hand, or a barbell held atop the neck and shoulders. Grip strength may be an issue with the dumbbell lunge so practitioners may prefer the barbell lunge.

When you lunge, you are mostly using your thighs and lower body region for your surge so focusing on some exercises to strengthen this region may be very helpful to you.

The two most powerful workouts should focus on lunges and squats.

Why don’t we watch a video featuring the effective way to perform a lunge and build strength in your lower region? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVwNVEQS_uo

We can appreciate Ms. Caroline Girvan’s teaching methods.

Time for a meet and greet.

Well said.

Now for a focus on squats.

Change Your Life with Squats 2022: Step By Step Guide To Boost Your Energy And Strength With Squats In Just 10 Minutes A Day! Paperback – May 9, 2022

“CHANGE YOUR LIFE WITH SQUATS” has been written for anyone that wants to know how squats can help them achieve increased health, fitness, strength and energy in a remarkably short time. Before I’d reached my teen years, I remember being fascinated by superheroes and their physiques. Just a childhood fantasy, like many others before me, I guess.

In my teens, I started casually reading up on anatomy, just for fun, as you do!

From there I practised and realized that squats were the single most rewarding exercise you could perform. By investing a bit of effort into your legs you could develop your overall bodily strength, muscles, circulation, stamina, and start to mould your body the way you wanted. There is a real sense of natural hormonal euphoria from the movement, repetitions, sets and lifting achievements themselves.

What’s not to like?

What I noted with regular squatting workouts (with or without weights) was interesting. I no longer got sick. I no longer got the usual round of viruses, colds, infections, aches and pains that I used to get which others still regularly got. One of the best advantages is that I no longer needed to take medicines or wait around for my turn in a packed doctor’s office or GP surgery – something that always made me feel awkward.

I haven’t needed to see a doctor for over 8 years, I was even called by my GP’s secretary because I was no longer on the register though as a responsible adult, I did register, from free choice, but I’m glad I didn’t need to – freedom is a wonderful thing! Something clicked for me. I realized that the body has its own inbuilt ‘pharmacy’ of natural drugs which you can activate by squatting regularly (with or without weights) for 5-10 minutes per day. This can help prevent a litany of health problems from developing in the first place.

I felt that this knowledge, along with a few methods, techniques and appropriate mindsets that I used (and still do) should be shared with as many people as possible, which is ultimately what compels me to write this book. Squats have changed my life – now it’s your turn to learn, experience and benefit from how squats can change your life, too.”

Very extensive. Nothing like real life personal experiences.

Hopefully the above focus, on lunges and squats, will help move the needle towards your direction in terms of having strong lunges and surges on the female grappling mats.

It can be a powerful enhancement.

By moving your more experienced opponent out of her comfort zone, with a surprise upper body lunge and headlock capture, can place you in a position to drive the match from her zone, into your victory zone.
