December 15-16, 2023,

INDEPENDENT WOMEN’S WRESTLING PROMOTION SHINES

It was with great anticipation when the women’s wrestling world heard of the launch of a new Pro Women’s Wrestling League and now hope and expectation has become reality.

As reported on December 5, 2023, “Japanese Women’s Pro Wrestling in Miami” may seem like the most random phrase you’ll likely hear during Miami Art Week. But reality is about to come crashing into the ring. Sukeban, a new and abundantly creative wrestling promotion, is hosting its first championship here in Miami on Wednesday, December 6.”

Sukeban is an American independent women’s professional wrestling promotion. In Japanese culture, Sukeban is an ode to the girl gangs in the 60’s and 70’s, which the promotion is influenced by as the roster is consisted by different units.

Sounds enticing.

We’ll keep you updated.

DECEMBER 18, WWE WOMEN’S TAG TEAM SHOWDOWN

Kayden Carter and Katana Chance were able to defeat Tegan Nox and Natalya last week plus Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae this week to earn a shot at the tag belts.”

Okay, mark your calendars.

Who is Riley Martinez?

The informative inside source mmauk.net educates, “A professional mixed martial artist since October 2021 and representing SBG Idaho, Riley Martinez holds an undefeated 3-0 record comprised of two submissions and one knockout. All three of her finishes during her time in the professional ranks have been inside the opening round in the span of five minutes or fewer.”

What else would we expect when a NCAA Power 5 school adds a women’s wrestling program.

They will be dominant.

It took a little while but better late than never. In November of 2023, the informative team at hawkcentral.com posted, “In the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll released on Thursday, the Iowa women’s wrestling program has jumped to No. 1 in the standings.

Originally ranked No. 8 to begin the year, the Hawkeyes shot up the rankings after a trio of dominating performances to open the season against East Stroudsburg, at the Princeton Open and in the Trailblazer Duals at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.”

INDIA WOMEN WRESTLING PROTEST

fciwomenswrestling.com femcompetititor.com grapplingstars.com, Mysterious-Boy-K1853-Own-work-Wikipedia-photo-credit-Editorial-use.

In January 2023, Indian wrestlers began protesting for investigation into the allegations of sexual harassment of female wrestlers by BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh during his tenure as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

The female wrestler complainants accuse Bhushan of groping, touching breasts and navels without consent, stalking, intimidation, and demanding “sexual favors” in exchange for professional help, all of which has led to a “shared sense of fear and trauma” among the women wrestlers.

This is developing into huge story that won’t go away and in some ways is getting worse.

Here is a recent update for the global news source CNN, “Some of India’s top female wrestlers were detained by police Sunday, in a chaotic escalation of a weeks-long protest against the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), who they accuse of sexual harassment.

Olympians Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik were among those held as they attempted to march to New Delhi’s historic center.”

India has very rich women’s wrestling history. We’ve have written about them on numerous occasions. We hope this situation begins to peacefully resolve itself.

LAST AUSSIE UFC FEMALE FIGHTER STANDING

The last remaining Australian female UFC fighter has sent a shout out for her fellow country women considering the idea of starting and competing in mixed martial arts ahead of her fight at UFC 296 this weekend.

‘King’ Casey O’Neill (9-1) wants athletic and competitive women who are considering a new  career path in mixed martial arts to know that they can make it all the way to the UFC if they truly want to.

She sure has.

Are you familiar with this dynamo?

Casey O’Neill is a Scottish Australian mixed martial artist.

She currently competes in the Flyweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

As of 7 November, 2023, she is #12 in the UFC women’s flyweight rankings.

Very impressive.

Casey was born in Irvine, Scotland and spent the early years of her life living in Kilmarnock.

Her father was a professional kickboxer and she began training in kickboxing at the age of four. At the age of 10 she moved with her family to Australia’s Gold Coast where she attended Coombabah State High School. At the age of 13, O’Neill began training in other martial arts such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

And the rest, they say, is history.

We close with positive news from India regarding one of their female wrestling stars.
