May 21, 2023,

An international match, like this, at an event, is a curiosity.

There aren’t many questions surrounding a match between Kat Max, of Ireland’s Max Academy and Curie, our consistent intermediate star from Germany.

Curie should win this match.

Is that direct enough?

Kat Max could as well. She is, by size, expected to be stronger than Curie.

Curie will have the advantage in the skills area.

So, it does raise the age old question in fully competitive female submission wrestling matches, is it better to have skill or strength?

We love watching Kat Max wrestle but one of our last reviews of her match against Ivy at Pippa’s Submission Room was very underwhelming. We have also seen her against top wrestlers like Kimbra, Dolly and Sheena, all resulting in losses.

Curie is consistent at the intermediate level but against the elite wrestlers, tends to lose as well and the way that Czech Republic’s Julie Silvie dominated her, sometimes she loses handily at the intermediate level too.

We’re going to place England’s Sativa in the elite category and she also easily defeated Curie.

So, today is a chance for one of these beautiful women to make a victory statement.

At the intermediate level.

We are about to find out which one will.

KAT MAX VS CURIE

All holds are basically in. That’s great. That works to the more skilled person’s advantage.

In this case, Curie.

The two begin on their knees and after some brief hand fighting, Curie lunges and captures Kat in a headlock and takes her down. Most important, Curie falls on top of her.

She tightens the lock.

Kat squirms underneath and even receives encouragement from the audience to break the hold.

Curie is undeterred.

She tightens the grip. Max is groaning in pain and soon taps out.

1-0 for Curie (1:53).

They engage again. This time with hands behind the neck struggle for control.

Kat earns the control and takes Curie down and is quickly on top of the German, sitting on her chest and stomach area. As Kat leans forward, Curie tries to fence her off with both arms. Strong advantage to Kat. In the ensuing struggle, Curie finds herself flat on her stomach with Kat on top of her. This would be an ideal time for Kat to apply a powerful rear naked choke but curiously and surprisingly she doesn’t.

Instead she rolls Curie into a side body scissor.

Then she applies the rear naked choke.

Curie is in trouble at two submission points and chooses to try and undo the choke.

She is not having success. Someone from the audience encourages Kat to squeeze harder.

She listens and applies. Curie groans loudly and taps out.

1-1 tie (3:25).

The upper shoulder and neck struggle begins in earnest. We have a tough intermediate match on our hands.

Curie falls to the floor and traps Kat in a floor to sitting body scissors and squeezes. Kat tries to struggle out, if she does, she will be right on top of Curie in a smothering position.

Curie continues to squeeze as Kat groans loudly.

This is where our initial question comes into play. Will strength or skill win out?

Kat is slowly breaking the hold as Curie tries to maneuver the stronger woman by grasping her arms. That is not going to work as Kat is too strong.

Curie doe a brilliant move and begins a joint lock and twist of Kat’s left arm. Kat is now in excruciating pain. She is breaking Curie’s initial scissors but the arm lock is just too painful and she taps out, as, Curie’s skill wins out.

This time.

2-1 for Curie (5:04).

As they engage, it is Kat who beats Curie to the punch and applies the floor to sitting body scissors as Curie groans.

Does Kat have the skill to pull this off because, if she can’t, Curie will fall right on top of her.

Kat doesn’t have the skills on this one. Curie breaks the hold and falls on top of her in a cross body position but it is Kat’s strength that rolls the shapely German girl over.

Now, Kat is on top.

A voice from the audience screams, “You’ve got her now”.

But does she?

It will be intriguing to see where Kat goes from here.

They struggle.

Curie manages to roll with Kat and lands on top. Then she applies that dreaded headlock from the top position.

Can Kat break the hold this time? Last time she did not. They struggle.

To the audience applause, Kat breaks the hold.

The two athletes are back on their knees, ready to re-engage.

Curie quickly applies the floor to sitting body scissor as Kat groans. The Ireland star uses her strong arms to grind them into Curie’s thighs, trying to break the hold. Curie responds by grabbing at Kat’s right arm and attempts to trap her in an arm lock and triangle choke.

It is working as Kat groans.

With little time left, if Curie secures this submission, the match is essentially over.

Curie stretches the arm out even further. Great idea.

Kat taps out.

3-1 for Curie (9:05).

The upper neck and shoulder struggle begins in earnest.

Kat pulls Curie downward and now has the upper hand. She traps Curie with a behind her back side body scissor. Curie gets to her knees and tries to break free. Kat is squeezing with all that she’s got.

Bodies elongated, Curie counters by trapping Kat in a side body scissor as well.

The war of attrition continues.

Both women are squeezing hard. Strength should win out but will it?

The sound of the pressure and pain are filling the room.

Kat begins to drive her left elbow into the back of Curie’s thighs.

They continue to struggle as the groans become louder.

As Curie gets to all fours, still trapped in the scissor, head facing away from Kat, her scissor on Kat, back flat on the mat, is broken.

Now it is Kat who continues to squeeze.

Kat soon rolls Curie into a side body scissor. Someone in the audience screams, “Come on, she’s yours”.

It is now starting to appear that way, as Kat squeezes harder.

Side body scissor secured, Kat is now in complete control, taking a slight breather and expressing, “I’ll just keep you there”.

The Max Academy star continues to apply the pressure as Curie grimaces.

At a stalemate, in terms of movement, Antscha begins to count Curie out to the count of ten.

Score a submission for Kat.

3-2, Curie is still ahead.

The match is now over.

This was an incredible, fully competitive match at the intermediate level.

Skill did win out today, but only slightly.
