July 3, 2022,

This is what we thought before the fight, Kayla Harrison Vs Kaitlin Young.

PRE-FIGHT MUSINGS

The wind just faded from our sails.

Probably myriads of other fans too. Most likely few of them own a yacht.

Doesn’t matter. When they heard the news that Julia Budd will not be fighting Kayla Harrison in their July 1, 2022 main event, we could hear air filled balloons deflating everywhere.

Who will take her place?

Kaitlin Young, that’s who.

You’ve heard of her right?

Young, old or middle aged, don’t know who the heck she is.

Respectfully speaking.

Question for you? Do you think a 12-12-1 record matches up well against a 13-0 record?

Will this match last longer than you can say “Kaitlin Young submitted”? What do you think?

We were really looking forward to Kayla Harrison fighting Julia Budd. Got a little excited about it. Good thing we didn’t get too excited about it. The air swishing out of our tires would give us four flats.

Okay, maybe we’re wrong.

Kaitlin sails in on a two match losing streak.

Wait a minute. Aren’t you supposed to be on a winning streak sailing into a main event?

Who is Kaitlin Young, really? No, really. Seriously. No, really.

Kaitlin Young, 36, is an American mixed martial artist who currently competes in the lightweight division.

A professional mixed martial artist since 2007, Ms. Young has also competed for EliteXC, Invicta Fighting Championships, and Professional Fighters League.

Kaitlin began training in martial arts at age 14, where she explored her interest in taekwondo and earned a black belt.

After attending a taekwondo national conference, Kaitlin discovered Thai boxing. She signed up for classes at the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy after attending a Thai boxing event.

Graduating at the top of her class from Centennial High School in 2004, Young subsequently enrolled in the University of Minnesota, with a major in kinesiology.

That’s a good start. She has a wide variety of MMA fighting experience with various organizations.

That is a major plus.

It is the record that scares us. It’s all about the PFL details.

On February 25, 2021, news surfaced that Young had signed with Professional Fighters League and is expected to compete in the women’s lightweight tournament of season 2021.

Kaitlin made her debut against Cindy Dandois at PFL 3 on May 6, 2021. She won the bout via unanimous decision.

She then faced Mariana Morais on June 25, 2021 at PFL 6. She lost the close bout via split decision.

Drum roll please.

Kaitlin faced Julia Budd on October 27, 2021 at PFL 10. She lost the bout in decisive fashion via unanimous decision.

We love supporting the PFL. They have raised a ring full of money for their cause.

This however is a disappointment. We wish Kaitlin the best but to describe a bout between a 13-0 fighter vs one who is 12-12-1 is typically a regular season event.

So what eventually happened?

As reported by ESPN after the fight, “Kayla Harrison‘s quest for a third PFL championship is very much alive following a first-round finish over Kaitlin Young on Friday night in the main event at PFL 6 in Atlanta. Harrison (14-0) won the 155-pound bout via TKO at 2:35 of the opening round, solidifying the No. 2 seed in the PFL playoffs.”

That says it all. Almost.

The team at sherdog.com adds, “The final fight of the evening saw Harrison (14-0) run through opponent Kaitlin Young, although the stoppage was more than questionable. Harrison quickly took Young (12-13-1) to the ground and was in full control as she rained down punches against the cage.”

Maybe Kayla’s rampage was a little pent up frustration at naysayers continually expressing how Kayla is not fighting the big time female MMA fighters.

After this fight, they’ll keep saying it.

The PFL continues to make news. Now, overseas.
