If Your Good Girl Type Wants To Get Married, Say Yes
November 12, 2021,
For all of our sakes, it better be the road less traveled.
The exit off the highway you would like to avoid.
If you have been involved in a relationship with a beautiful, honest, stable and loving woman for years, don’t mess it up by breaking up with her, for whatever reason. Especially to sleep with other women.
Work through it. Why?
If our college and early twenties experiences taught us anything, then you should know why.
Isn’t it better to learn from the bad experiences of others rather than experience it yourself?
Instead of driving off the relationship interstate, purchase a couple’s therapy map and point your relationship in the right direction.
We have known very true stories in our circle of a male friend who was dating a beautiful (let’s keep it real) sexually conservative woman, in one case a virgin. They were together for years and the male friend involved felt he wasn’t ready to commit to her and he eventually initiates the break up strategy.
She can feel him wasting her time, after all, she does have a biological clock, and she is giving him one last chance to commit.
He doesn’t. Why not?
First of all, he has probably cheated on her.
Second, women are always attracted to men that already are in a relationship with a beautiful solid woman. So maybe he is being excessively flirted with on the side, even when he doesn’t act upon it.
Then his greed gets the best of him.
He tells her maybe they should take a break and start seeing other people. Then he adds insult to injury by saying this time worn cliché, if it is love, set it free and it will come back to you.
Right.
So he breaks it off.
In the above very real life scenario, our friend, who was dating a once virgin, before he slept with her, after they broke up had a few girlfriends.
Her?
Within months she slept with five guys. Again, true story.
They never got back together. She didn’t want to. Loved the strange you know what.
Which now turns us to film.
Art often does imitate life which in the case of film, the writer and producer who have made these films, most likely based them upon real life experiences.
We will start with the film Permission.
Permission is a 2017 American romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Brian Crano.
The film stars Rebecca Hall as a woman on the brink of a marriage proposal from her boyfriend (Dan Stevens), but is impeded by the suggestion of her brother (David Joseph Craig) and his life partner (Morgan Spector) to “test date” other men before she ultimately settles down.
Her boyfriend foolishly agrees that maybe they should.
What more does this guy want? You have an elegant beautiful babe like Rebecca Hall ready to have your children and you want to stray? Where?
So, as you might guess, his girlfriend sleeps with a bad boy type who can smell, I’m ready to live out my fantasies, blood in the water and takes her for a sexual ride she loves. He is great at this, ravish the good girl game, and she loves it.
It is just about sex, so it lasts for a little while.
But now she has gotten a taste of the strange and is quickly becoming addicted.
Then, since they are now in the friend zone, she meets up with her boyfriend who has slept with an older richer woman who is much stronger than him and he sheepishly asks if his once babe has had enough strange to see if they can get back together.
She pauses. Hesitates. Smiles and says no.
She wants to continue to get laid by other male dogs. Sniff, sniff.
You should see the look on his face. Oh well. Hope you learned something.
We sure did. Validated what we already knew.
Eventually he begs her to come back to him. Even builds her a fantastic Condo in a nice expensive section of New York. She hesitates. Agrees.
Then at the last minute changes her mind and says no to getting married to him.
It is a painful ending to watch.
The next film will be developed in great detail in another story but worth at least mentioning here.
Between Us is a 2016 American drama film written and directed by Rafael Palacio Illingworth. The film stars Olivia Thirlby, Ben Feldman, Adam Goldberg, Analeigh Tipton, Scott Haze, Peter Bogdanovich and Lesley Ann Warren.
Thirlby and Feldman play a couple confronted by the fear that settling down and getting married means their carefree days as city-dwelling young adults is coming to an end.
Scratch that.
Mostly he felt that way.
Then the usual disaster happens where he allows her to sleep with other people so he can, and true to form, she gets dogged out by a larger, more athletic superior male, who is not remotely in love with her (good girls sowing wild oats seem to love that) but shows her a great time in bed.
Enough said there.
Our final film on the, foolish greedy male who lets a prize woman go list, is In A Relationship.
In a Relationship is a 2018 American romantic drama film, written and directed by Sam Boyd. It stars Emma Roberts (Hallie), Michael Angarano (Owen), Dree Hemingway, Patrick Gibson, Jay Ellis, and Melora Walters, and focuses the relationship of two couples over one summer.
Three years after they started dating, Hallie and Owen have a decision to make.
To save on the rent, we feel as a pretense, Halle suggests that she and Own should live together.
Now, we’ve seen Emma Roberts in her teen flicks and have to say that she has evolved into an absolutely beautiful young woman. She’s the wife. Not the girl friend. She is a wonderful cross between red head beauties Bella Thorne and Jessica Chastain (minus the extreme feminism, yuck, no, double yuck).
This guy should leap at her offer but he doesn’t want to commit. He’s greedy and wants to sleep with more women.
They painfully break up.
Then he finds out that not only is she sleeping with a Social Media star but also with a beautiful young woman as well.
Double ouch.
He of course, gets laid once in a blue moon and now that he is single, all of those women who were once attracted to men in a relationship with Ms. Wonderful, are no longer interested.
Eventually he gets a new place, smaller than before, fixes it up and invites Halle back into his life.
They sleep together.
He now is ready for her to move in with him. She looks at him like, what?
She hesitates and says no. It’s too late. Why didn’t he do this before? She has new lovers now, and believe us, with far more to come. She wasted three years on him. All he had to do was ask her to marry him and she surely would have said yes. He is so sad, he lays in her lap, almost in tears.
When are men going to learn?
This whole, let’s see other people foolishness is just about greed. If you have a woman that you can see having children with in your life, you had better keep her.
Now, who are we to disagree with the legendary writer Robert Frost about choosing to traverse the road less traveled? We do agree with him completely when it comes to taking risks for the things you love in life.
Don’t follow the herd.
But always remember the title of his great timeless poem.
The Road Not Taken.
When it comes to traveling down the Couple’s Interstate 101 with a beautiful, conservative, loving and loyal Emma Roberts, Rebecca Hall or Olivia Thirlby type potential wife, sitting by your side in the passenger seat, please re-read the title.
It is the Road “Not” Taken.
Heed the advice. Don’t take that road.
Stay on the interstate and never let her go.
