August 4, 2023,

You need to get out more.

We do as well.

One of the greatest cities in America, not named Los Angeles or New York, is not found on the coast. It is in America’s heartland and it is full of heart.

Located on the shores of Lake Michigan (great for relaxing, dangerous for swimming), Chicago is the most populous city in Illinois and the third-most populous in the United States after New York City and Los Angeles.

With a population of 2,746,388 in the 2020 census, it is also the most populous city in the Midwest.

Chicago is so ginormous, with so much to do and so much to see, where do you begin?

How about the official city site? It is a good one. Perhaps a masterpiece.

Let’s take a look.

At choosechicago.com they entice, “Take a spin on the Ferris wheel at Navy Pier. Grab a slice of deep dish. Snap a photo with “The Bean.” Looking for a classic Chicago experience? Explore our city’s one-of-a-kind attractions and experiences.”

Appreciate that Chicago. There are plenty of those.

Their team continues, “Festival season never ends in Chicago. Summer is jam-packed with food fests, outdoor concerts, and Pride celebrations. Winter brings beer festivals, indoor markets, and film fests. And spring and fall have a little bit of everything. Explore festivals throughout the year.”

Glad to know that. We’re interested in the food festivals. You as well? Here goes.

They smile, “Chicago’s biggest food festival and one of the largest outdoor food events in the country, Taste of Chicago is an epic eating extravaganza in the city’s downtown. Some of the city’s most beloved and iconic local restaurants set up shop in lakefront Grant Park, along with rotating pop-up restaurants, local food trucks, and live chef demos. And don’t miss the free concerts featuring big-name acts at the Petrillo Music Shell.

This five-star culinary event is the city’s quintessential fine-dining festival. Chicago Gourmet celebrates great food and wine, showcasing some of the finest restaurants in the city. The fest is set on the Harris Theater Rooftop in Millennium Park, where fest-goers mix and mingle with top chefs, TV food personalities, master sommeliers, and winemakers. The multi-day fest includes the crowd-favorite Hamburger Hop and other themed events.”

We are getting hungry. We can smell the good food already and it floats by deliciously. The world famous stockyards are not far away. Where’s the beef? That’s where.

We still love our thick juicy hamburgers. Yes, with onions, pickles, lettuce, plenty of ketchup and mustard.

What can we wash it down with?

Did you say beer? Good. You said, what we were thinking.

The site educates, “There’s always something cool happening in Pilsen and Bridgeport on the southwest side. These distinct neighborhoods — from a vibrant, Hispanic enclave known for its colorful street art to a homey neighborhood with deep Irish roots — have something in common — cool breweries that are worth the trip.

Go behind the scenes at one of the biggest breweries in Illinois: Lagunitas Brewing Company, between the Pilsen and North Lawndale neighborhoods. The spacious taproom features views of the production facility, live music, a full menu of munchies, and all of Lagunitas’ greatest hits.”

That gets us off to a sensational start.

Look, we’re going to have some more fun but first, we suggest you watch a movie that speaks to Chicago in a way that we have rarely seen. It is a classic.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is a 1986 American teen comedy film written, co-produced, and directed by John Hughes and co-produced by Tom Jacobson.

The film stars Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, and Alan Ruck, with supporting roles from Jennifer Grey, Jeffrey Jones, Cindy Pickett, Edie McClurg, and Lyman Ward.

It humorously tells the story of a high school slacker, Ferris, who skips school with his best friend, Cameron, and his girlfriend for a day in Chicago, and regularly breaks the fourth wall to explain his techniques and inner thoughts.

His running commentary with the camera is hilarious.

More to the storyline.

In a Chicago suburb two months before graduation, high school senior Ferris Bueller fakes illness to stay home from school. His parents believe he is ill, though his sister, Jeannie, does not. After learning Ferris is absent from school, Dean of Students Ed Rooney becomes determined to expose Ferris’s chronic truancy.

Mr. Hughes wrote the screenplay in less than a week.

Filming began in September 1985 and finished in November, featuring many Chicago landmarks including the then Sears Tower, Wrigley Field and the Art Institute of Chicago. The film was Hughes’s love letter to Chicago: “I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit.”

Well done.

Released by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 1986, the film became the tenth-highest-grossing film of 1986 in the United States, grossing $70 million over a $5 million budget.

An amazing profit.

The film received acclaim from critics and audiences alike, who praised Broderick’s performance, the humor, and the tone.

In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, being deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

We agree. It is a time capsule masterpiece. Chicago has never looked better and been more fun.

A year earlier, they did produce one of the greatest teams in NFL history. Remember this Chicago Bears video masterpiece? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooT_uz–O2A

That’s was fun and memorable too.

The expert Travel Writers at Lonely Planet know a thing or two about having fun. Chicago style. Led by the brilliant Karla, they share, “A spirit of inventiveness lingers from the days when Chicago built the first skyscraper. Big, bold ideas are still encouraged. You’ll see it in groundbreaking theater productions, chefs’ bubbling kitchens and the green architecture rising from city streets.”

After all of that, are you finally ready for the session of your life?

There are a number of beautiful ladies who session there. You can find them on the WB270.

After a full day, let’s dine on something Chicago is famous for.

Chicago-style pizza is pizza prepared according to several styles developed in Chicago.

fciwomenswrestling.com femcompetititor.com grapplingstars.com, deep-pan-pizza-Олександр-Дячук-Own-work-Wikipedia-free-use

It can refer to both the well-known deep-dish or stuffed pizzas and the lesser-known thin-crust tavern-style pizzas more popular with locals.

The pan in which deep-dish pizza is baked gives the pizza its characteristically high edge, which provides ample space for large amounts of cheese and a chunky tomato sauce.

Yummy.

Chicago-style deep-dish pizza may be prepared in the deep-dish style and as a stuffed pizza. Chicago-style thin-crust pizza dough is rolled for a thinner crispier crust than other thin-crust styles. The thin-crust pizza is cut in squares instead of slices, and is also referred to as a “tavern-style” pizza.

After the meal, later that evening, it’s time for a snack. Chicago style.

Chicago proudly bangs her drums over the widely accepted premise that the cheese and caramel popcorn mix is uniquely hers because it was made famous by Garrett’s Popcorn, a local staple that’s been in business since 1949 garrettpopcorn.com.

Well, that is the tour for now.

If you make a decision to travel to Chicago for a session, take in a movie and get to know the place, enjoy a festival, relax at the beach (Lake Michigan) eat some great food and of course, have a beer.

And a gorgeous session.
