SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2023, UFC WOMEN’S MAJOR FIGHTS
Alexa Grasso
The super talented women of the UFC are about to go at it again.
As reported by dazn.com, “Saturday sees the UFC women’s flyweight belt on the line again in a rematch between Valentina Shevchenko and Alexa Grasso.
Grasso pulled off an upset when she defeated Shevchenko nine months ago, and she has the chance to win it back in Las Vegas this weekend.”
We’ll see.
Now, for a tale of the tape.
Valentina Shevchenko is a Kyrgyzstani and Peruvian professional mixed martial artist and former Muay Thai fighter.
She currently competes in the women’s Flyweight division for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where she is the former UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion.
As of March 7, 2023, she is ranked #1 in the women’s flyweight rankings, and as of August 22, 2023, she is ranked #3 in the UFC women’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Very impressive.
Let’s look at her opponent.
Alexa Grasso is a Mexican professional mixed martial artist who competes in the women’s Flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where she is the current UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion.
Alexa can easily multi-task.
She is also a UFC analyst for UFC Español for Spanish broadcasts.[4] As of June 20, 2023, she is ranked #1 in the UFC women’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Alexa made her professional MMA debut in December 2012 in her native Mexico. During the first eighteen months of her career, she amassed an undefeated record of 5 wins (3 by TKO, 2 by decision) and 0 losses.
Very impressive.
This should be a good one.
You can stream it on ESPN+
KAYLA HARRISON COMING BACK TO FIGHT IN PFL
This has to be huge news. Almost hard to believe.
For a moment, once super star Kayla Harrison did not re-sign with the PFL, we thought she was gone for good.
She is not.
As reported by mmacrossfire.com, “Former two-time PFL lightweight women’s champion Kayla Harrison is returning later this year to the PFL Smartcage against former Canadian Bellator champion Julia Budd.
Harrison (15-1-0), 33, hasn’t fought since she lost to Larissa Pacheco in the women’s lightweight final in November 2022. Now, she will move to 145 pounds to face former Bellator champion Julia Budd on Nov. 24 in Washington D.C.”
Good to know. Super glad to see Kayla back. It appears when the talented star parted ways with the PFL, things didn’t go as planned. Here is from her Instagram:
“Consistency. To be honest with you there’s a lot up in the air with my career right now. Most of it I can’t control. But what I can control is my level of consistency. Am I putting in the work? Am I staying disciplined? Am I keeping my nose down and working hard? The rest I leave in Gods hands.”
We’ll keep you posted.
How can the PFL continue to make major signings? It is due, in part, to ventures like this one.
