March 24, 2023,

How much time do you have on your hands?

When it comes to this subject, whether you are married or single, we sense to truly benefit from it, you need to give it a day.

Escapism.

We all need it.

In a world where so much of the news ranges from awful to frightening, it is good to take a break from it.

Inexpensively.

Beautifully.

In the dark. That is the best way. We’ve been there, done that before.

In our circle, a father was recently having a conversation with his married adult son who in a subtle way says he remember spending more time with his mother than him.

Our associate thought, well, yes, he was at work and his mother was a stay at home mom. It came across as a veiled criticism. Especially when the son added that our friend liked to watch TV alone in his room.

That stung a little.

But it was true.

Now for the qualifiers.

The family was in organized religion where he was a leader, so his children were always with him, as a family they did everything together, going on vacations, playing tennis, sitting by the fireplace and more.

His kids never had a baby sitter.

Not once.

He was always there and yet, his son only seems to remember when he wasn’t.

There, but not available. Why?

Our friend needed to escape.

Going on vacation with a family is not necessarily an escape for a father. He worked fulltime, was a leader in organized religion fulltime and a father fulltime.

That is a lot of fulltime.

People remember what they chose to.

So, our friend escaped into his private movie room and we do emphasis private. As far as his son’s veiled complaint, he is annoyed but, in retrospect, given how stressful his life was, escaping into his movie room where he was only a door knock away from his family, he felt that some people are never satisfied.

Again for emphasis, his children never had a baby sitter.

Ever.

And they still act like he was rarely around.

Go figure.

Our point today?

Since, no matter what you do for them, many will see what you didn’t do, you need to take care of yourself too.

So, who better to escape with, in the dark, in your private movie room, alone, than with beautiful actresses on a big screen television with no distractions.

Are you ready to escape now?

If not yet, we’re going to give you two movies to watch, all in the same day, both in a row. Those are the ground rules. Fair enough?

Good.

Also, you must cover the windows with a dark sheet and turn the lights out. We suggest you start about 5pm so you can conclude this escape about 9 pm at the latest.

One more thing.

Pick up or order your favorite food, with some dessert or spirits before 5pm so you have it all there right with you.

Ready?

Turn out the lights.

There she is (sigh). Leighton Meester.

Leighton Meester is a gorgeous American actress, singer, and model.

She is best known for her starring role as the devious socialite Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl on The CW (2007–2012).

We loved that character so much and fantasized about what it would be like to have her for a girlfriend.

Long term.

Well, that was the past.

About the dark movie room escape.

Let’s focus on Leighton’s getaway movie.

Ironically titled The Weekend Getaway.

We sense we know what you are thinking but remember, it is not a comedy at all.

The Weekend Getaway is a 2022 American thriller film directed by Kim Farrant from a screenplay by Sarah Alderson, based on Alderson’s 2020 novel of the same name.

It follows a woman named Beth (Leighton Meester), who travels to Croatia for a weekend getaway with her best friend Kate.

However, Kate suddenly goes missing and Beth is forced to figure out what happened to her.

Here is the storyline. More details.

London-based American new mother Beth flies to Croatia for a holiday with her best friend Kate. Beth confides that her marriage has hit a dull patch and that she is uncertain what to do.

They go clubbing and two men flirt with them. Kate suggests Beth have a one-night stand.

The next morning, Beth wakes up foggy about the night’s events and realizes Kate is missing.

Her husband Rob and the police are indifferent, but Zain, the taxi driver who drove them to the club, agrees to help. Beth recovers Kate’s purse and phone, and learns that the men from the club were escorts hired by Kate.

However, they are also con men who drug and rob the women they service.

Enough cloak and dagger for you?

Lots of twists and turns in this one and of course Leighton is the very surprised star of the story.

What we liked most is that the plot twists were believable.

Again, in the dark only.

One more.

Now remember, we are not talking about Shakespeare here. Just some great escapism in the dark.

Next up, The Roommate.

Here, it is not the theme, it is the beautiful women who make the theme come to life. In other hands, this one could be turned off in 10 minutes, because since the film Single White Female, all others, including this one could be considered a knock off.

Okay, maybe it is time for dessert. Take your time. Go get some.

Back in the room?

Okay turn out the lights.

The Roommate is a 2011 American psychological thriller film directed by Christian E. Christiansen and written by Sonny Mallhi. The film stars Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, Cam Gigandet, Danneel Harris, Matt Lanter, and Aly Michalka.

Leighton and Minka are dynamite in a beautiful package.

Now for the storyline.

Sara Matthews is starting her freshman year of college in Los Angeles. She meets party girl Tracy, frat boy Stephen, her love interest and Rebecca, her shy college roommate who bears an uncanny resemblance to her.

The girls begin to bond and Rebecca learns that Sara had an older sister, Emily, who died when Sara was nine, and an ex-boyfriend, Jason, who keeps calling her in attempts to reconcile.

Over time, Rebecca’s obsession with Sara grows, which causes her to drive away anyone who could come between them.

Now remember. It is not just the story, it is the beautiful women that make it come to life.

Okay.

Are you a little more rested than you were before?

Remember an important life lesson. Even if others who you did the world for don’t appreciate you?

You should appreciate yourself.

Prove it.

Enjoy a Leighton Meester escape.

In the dark.
