She’s Beautiful And Obsessed With You, Two 1993 Classics Say Stay Away
November 23, 2023,
It’s okay to look.
Okay, maybe peek.
It’s okay to smile.
Is it okay to touch?
Well, that is up to you.
Now, before you answer that, let’s get a few things straight.
You think she is absolutely gorgeous. Mesmerizing even. Another girl told you she is interested but you already figured that out the way she is looking at you.
Staring at you.
You fantasize about her too. Voluntarily. Involuntarily as well. In your dreams. Daytime and at night.
Should you meet her?
Maybe not.
Why not?
Because, as beautiful as she may be, this magical babe is completely crazy.
Not kind of crazy.
Not sort of crazy.
Not cute crazy.
She’s completely crazy.
Got to give her credit though. Initially she hides it well.
Stay away from her you say?
Easier said than done.
She is so beautiful, you are tempted. Just like these other guys were. In fact, in one case of the next two examples, not only did he sleep with her, he married her.
Then the trouble really started.
You might want to read the following sitting down.
They are cautionary tales.
The legendary Bobby Darin warned us about this fixation. Here are the lyrics.
“Every night I hope and pray
A dream lover will come my way
A girl to hold in my arms
And know the magic of her charms
‘Cause I want (yeah-yeah, yeah)
A girl (yeah-yeah, yeah)
To call (yeah-yeah, yeah)
My own (yeah-yeah)
I want a dream lover
So I don’t have to dream alone.”
Dream Lover is a 1993 American erotic thriller film written and directed by Nicholas Kazan, starring James Spader and Mädchen Amick, with Bess Armstrong, Frederic Lehne, and Larry Miller in supporting roles.
Now for the tale.
The film opens on divorce proceedings involving Ray Reardon, a successful architect, and his first wife. Shortly after their divorce, he agrees to go to a gallery opening to meet a woman with whom his obnoxious friend, Norman, sets him up.
Conceited, arrogant, successful men with money tend to know beautiful women.
While there, Ray embarrasses himself by bumping into a woman, making her spill wine on herself. She wastes no time verbally abusing him. A week later, he runs into the woman, named Lena Mathers, at the supermarket. She apologizes for her behavior and the two go to dinner.
What a dream come true. Or, so he thought.
They have sex the next day, marry shortly thereafter, and become parents.
Despite his happiness in the marriage, Ray becomes suspicious after catching Lena in several lies about her past.
Then the plot thickens.
What is it like to be sleeping next to a beautiful crazy woman? You should watch this one.
The gorgeous actress Mädchen Amick, is at her best here in her 1993 beautiful form. Later went on to star in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. She reminds you of the completely gorgeous girl you knew in high school who liked the bad boys and wouldn’t give you the time of day.
So here, you get what you want.
She’s clearly interested. But why?
The movie is called Dream Lover for a reason.
On to the next one.
It was Kylie Minogue’s hypnotic “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” song that reminded us of this 1993 thriller about an incredibly gorgeous babe who mesmerizes you. Here are the lyrics.
“I just can’t get you out of my head
Boy, your lovin’ is all I think about
I just can’t get you out of my head
Boy, its more than I dare to think about
Every day
Just to be there in your arms
Won’t you stay
Won’t you lay
Stay forever and ever, and ever, and ever.”
It is easy to feel that way about Alicia Silverstone.
The Crush is a 1993 American psychological thriller film written and directed by Alan Shapiro, which stars Cary Elwes as Nick Eliot and Alicia Silverstone as Darian Forrester, in her feature film debut.
What an incredible start for the future “It Star” who would later star in the teen classic Clueless.
Brace yourself for the story.
When 28-year-old writer Nick Eliot moves to a new city for a magazine job, Darian Forrester, the 14-year-old daughter of the landlords whose guesthouse he rents, instantly makes her attraction to Nick clear.
That’s right, she’s only 14 in the movie. That alone should make anyone stay away.
Nick couldn’t. At least not initially.
This is what gets him in trouble with the precocious teenager.
While Nick romances photographer Amy Maddik at work, he has trouble fending off Darian’s advances.
It started off well enough.
Adrian invites Nick to a party that her parents are throwing at their house. Without confirming that he will attend, Nick decides to stop in. As he enters the house, Nick is taken by Adrian’s impressive piano performance.
Nick follows Adrian to her parents’ outdoor balcony afterwards. He muses that if she were just 10 years older, as she flirtatiously interrupts him, questioning what he’d do. Redirecting the conversation, Adrian suddenly encourages Nick to take her for a ride in his convertible.
That’s when the trouble really starts.
As her obsession with Nick grows, Darian becomes angry at being rejected and starts attacking his property and friends, even going as far as having him arrested for sexual assault.
The movie quickly became a cult classic.
We’ve watched it more than once and can understand why.
It was 1993 and the world was certainly a different place. The Pentium microprocessor was introduced, Bill Clinton was inaugurated as the 42nd U.S. president and in a tragic event that changed the world forever, and terrorists carried out their first attack on the World Trade Center.
In terms of the movies, these two thrillers were early reminders of, no matter how beautiful a woman is, and you love her attention, once she starts acting crazy, you need to get away from her as fast you can.
Even if she is an incredibly gorgeous dream lover that has a crush on you.
