Newer Female Grapplers, Build Confidence Thru Training And Strategy
August 30, 2022,
It takes two to tango.
Ability and victory are doing the tango. Pretty cool looking dance.
And what is the result?
Confidence.
You need both.
If you are a newer female grappler and developing your game, you will need to first develop your skills and ability.
The first step is to understand that before the great painters created masterful works of art to be dissected and studied, complete with subliminal messages, they needed to learn how to draw circles and squares.
What will help propel you to become an exceptional female submission wrestler?
Draw your circles and squares first.
What are they?
Learn basic Greco styled wrestling. Learn how to master the headlock first. It is the most basic move in wrestling. Once you secure the headlock, don’t do it from the bottom position. Secure it and make sure that your body is on top.
Next?
Begin to work out at the gym.
Machines that are designed to develop your biceps, triceps, back and shoulder muscles are the starting places because you will need them for take downs.
Often over looked are hand grips. Purchase them. They will be extremely valuable to you because most female submission wrestling matches begin with hand fighting and wrist grabbing.
Start slowly but train in cardio related exercises to develop your physical fitness. Fatigue makes cowards out of all of us on the competitive mats.
Get yourself in good shape.
After you’ve done all of the above?
Learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport based on ground fighting and submission holds. BJJ focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one’s opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.
Now time to draw the circles and squares.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was first developed around 1920 by Brazilian brothers Carlos, Oswaldo, Gastão Jr., George, and Hélio Gracie, after Carlos was taught traditional Kodokan judo by a travelling Japanese judoka, Mitsuyo Maeda, in 1917.
Later, they marketed their own self-defense system based on Judo and named it Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. BJJ eventually came to be its own defined combat sport through the innovations, practices, and adaptation of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, and became an essential martial art for modern MMA.
BJJ revolves around the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend him/herself against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and weight distribution, taking the fight to the ground and using a number of holds and submissions to defeat them.
BJJ training can be used for female sport grappling and self-defense situations.
So, now that you learned basic grappling, worked out to build your important strength development muscles, engaged in serious cardio to become physically fit and trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you are ready to wrestle on the mats.
To build confidence, who should you wrestle?
Women that you know you can defeat.
There can be no doubt in your mind.
Build up your confidence by building up your victory total first.
This is critical.
We look to a real life example in the stunning and beautiful Hungarian fighter Jenna.
In May of 2016, in an article written about this timeless beauty, here is what FCI Women’s Wrestling Magazine had to say, “When laying eyes upon the absolutely gorgeous Hungarian wrestler Jenna there are many things that you will want to say yes to.
Would you like to have a session with her?
Yes.
Would you like to watch her wrestle?
Yes.
Would you like to take her to dinner at an upscale restaurant, right out of a movie scene?
Yes.
She appears to be a newer wrestler but she is willing to take her lumps and keep learning.
She has sculptured her nicely muscular yet feminine body through hard work. Jenna has 4 years of judo participation on her resume. She easily runs a half-marathon and does a lot of cardio training at the gym.”
You see? You might be a newer female submission wrestler and so was Jenna.
Lots of applying the word “yes” in that passage.
Yes, she had a lot to learn and to do so, she needed to build her confidence.
At the great Femwrestle Events in Troisdorf, Germany, Jenna had to fight outside of her Hungarian pond where she trained and wrestled with Tia, Viktoria, Antscha, Orsi and the like.
We consider those company fights.
If you really want to build your confidence, at some point you need to wrestle outside of the pond on an International stage.
When we reviewed many of Jenna’s matches there against the Czech warriors, Artemis, Alkaia and others, she often started off well but all it took was one submission and you could see the confidence ooze out of her.
Suggestion?
Early in your development, wrestle girls you know that you can beat.
In Troisdorf, she found one in the German maiden Brenda.
Here is how another article written about Jenna in 2018 analyzed that situation, “In our global competitive female submission wrestling industry, after an action packed but somewhat puzzling career, as of this November 2018 writing, we wonder if the gorgeous, broad shouldered, feminine Hungarian fighter Jenna is ascending or otherwise.
She came to the submission wrestling party a little late in her thirties while many princesses start in their teens or twenties.
Still she had much (dreaded word coming) potential.
Trained by the former DWW Warrior Tia, the possibilities of extended success raised expectations.
The question is as we analyze Jenna’s career, did they materialize?”
Very good question.
Against Brenda, they did materialize.
Here is the brief report on that match, “This is the match where Jenna’s confidence must be running high since the gorgeous German Fitness Girl Brenda has had difficulty acquiring victories at the big stage in Troisdorf.
The two girls come out dressed more causally, Brenda in black fitness shorts and a bright top while Jenna is adorned in traditional sweat shirt gray.
This is Jenna’s opportunity to flex her muscles and strong legs too as she controls the match with her upper body strength and body scissors.
Finally all of Jenna’s company training pays off as she puts on a clinic with the less experienced German blonde.”
You see, that is how you build confidence.
You look like you are ready to Tango.
Always remember the basics. Ability (training) and victories (strategic matches against girls you know you can beat), equal confidence.
Our suggestion?
Like a muscle, keep building it.
