London 2022 Submission Room Event, Ambra Vs Simone, Strategic Lesson

It is not an optical illusion nor a cheap parlor trick. It is not due to the camera angle.

Ambra is substantially shorter than Simone.

That’s a fact.

In terms of who will win this match, what does that have to do with anything? Answer?

Not much.

The keys, as with any match, are the skill levels and strategy.

Force your opponent to play to your strengths, especially if they are higher skilled.

Or much taller.

We have not heard much of Ambra or Simone. When we look at Pippa’s match description, she makes it clear that Ambra is skilled in MMA.

As far as we can tell, this is Simone’s first time competing at a Submission Room event.

Though Simone’s resume does not indicate strong MMA training, she is taller and stronger than Ambra and there is a lot to be said for that. If you use those weapons properly.

Who will force who, to wrestle to their game?

As the two begin to engage, the first minute is a draw, but revealing.

Ambra wisely goes for Simone’s head and neck area and traps her in a Guillotine Choke.

Simone is temporarily stunned.

The taller beauty does something simple, basic and wise. She uses her strength to break the hold by taking her right arm, grabbing Ambra’s over the neck choking arm, and removes it.

There is a temporary dislodgement.

Temporary.

Soon Ambra clamps down on her again and brings Simone down to her knees for a fierce choke.

Once again Simone removes her arm.

At some point, Simone will have to come up with an offense of her own. Playing defense to Guillotine Chokes is bound to eventually get you submitted. (1:47).

As the two continue to battle, Simone fights from the knees and Ambra keeps spinning around to attach a choke.

She does. It is a Guillotine choke.

Simone is in trouble, as she is bent over with a frontal choke. She manages to lift her body upright from the knees to use her arms to break the attachment.

She is about to but Ambra cleverly spins around and captures Simone from behind with a Rear Naked Choke. Simone gasps and tries to break a very tight hold. As long as Simone can remain upright from the knees, Ambra will have difficulty finishing the choke.

Good to know.

Therefore, Ambra pulls back and takes Simone down to the mat floor.

Great move. If this works, make no mistake about it, Ambra will try this again.

Now lying on her back, with Ambra behind her and efficiently applying the Rear Naked Choke, Simone is fading.

She reluctantly taps out.

Ambra leads 1-0 (3:30).

One person in the audience exclaimed with great surprise, “Oh wow!”

Wow indeed. Ambra is wrestling a thinking woman’s game.

Time for some strategy talk as Simone could quickly let this match get away from her.

As both warriors begin on their knees, with Simone’s height advantage, she should lunge forward and try and trap Ambra in a headlock and gently land the full force of her body on top of her. The combination of her larger body and a tight head lock would make it virtually impossible for the smaller woman to escape.

The other option is to bull rush Ambra, push her down to the mats, lunge forward and try for a smother.

If Simone does this and learns as she goes, this match could go her way.

She is very new and Ambra is very experienced so what we just suggested for Simone will be a tall order (pun intended).

Instead Simone engages in arm and wrist grabbing which plays into the hands of the experienced martial artist.

Ambra counters and from the mat floor attempts a leg head lock which Simone breaks, but Ambra is clearly the aggressor (5:00).

Ambra seems to know all of the right moves and continues to attack Simone above the shoulders.

She gets into a frontal top position and pushes Simone backwards and employs a neck face sit with Simone and her beautiful long legs struggling underneath.

Simone breaks out.

No celebration though as Ambra is lightening quick, sprints behind Simone’s back and is attempting what absolutely worked before in the rear naked choke.

Simone is adept at applying what worked before, takes her arms and removes Ambra’s arms from around her neck.

The challenge for Simone is that she is doing nothing offensively at all.

Ambra takes up the void and leaps on top of Simone’s shoulder, takes her down and both girls land with a thud on the mats.

Ambra, physically and mentally in complete control, smiles at the audience and professes, “Don’t worry, I’m okay”.

In the process, she keeps Simone trapped in a triangle choke, tightens her grip and the taller girl has no choice but to tap out.

2-0 for Ambra (6:50).

As they compete again, the lack of strategy from the beautiful newbie Simone becomes painfully obvious.

She is engaging in arm and wrist struggle when all she has to do is fall on top of Simone who has spotted her the opportunity. Why do we say that? Because Ambra is fighting from the ground.

Simone squanders another power thrust opportunity and now Ambra leaps up, jumps on top of Simone and pushes her down to the mats and lands on top of her.

It could have happened the other way around.

Now Ambra is completely in control.

The dark haired brunette is trying to keep Simone trapped on her back. The taller beauty keeps trying to squirm to the side as Ambra is trying to prevent that. As Simone is having some sideways success, Ambra quickly moves around and falls upon Simone with a reverse smother.

The match takes on an erotic tone as Simone softly kicks her long beautiful legs to escape, but can’t.

The two continue to struggle.

Ambra now tries something different as she spins to the side herself and encases Simone in an arm bar.

Simone is too strong and breaks the hold.

No problem.

Ambra quickly spins around Simone’s back and clamps her in a rear naked choke. It worked before. Will it work again?

It does indeed. Simone grimaces and choking loudly taps out.

3-0 for Ambra, the superior strategist. (10:03).

Time for a much needed rest.

Ambra is fanning herself and both girls are panting profusely.

It must be a hot sultry day in London.

Once they begin, Simone makes the same mistake of trying to match Ambra with arm and wrist grabbing.

Not going to work.

Ambra is just too skilled, so when she gets an opening she immediately goes for Simone’s upper torso where she continually does damage.

The girls struggle with Simone on the bottom and Ambra twirling and swirling around the taller girl’s head as she fights from that position of strength.

Simone cannot shake her off.

Finally Simone gives up her back and that is all that Ambra needs to close in for the kill. She traps the statuesque feminine girl in a rear naked choke, grimaces and squeezes tight. You know the rest.

Simone gurgles and taps out.

4-0 for Ambra (14:30).

There is only one minute left.

Simone is now grabbing at Ambra’s legs to pull her under? Not sure. Doesn’t work anyway.

Once again, Ambra leaps to her feet and head hunts. With success. Again. She is ready to take Simone down to the mats, dominate and submit her but time runs out.

This was a perfect match for teaching how you should force your opponent to play to your strength, not theirs.

Granted Simone is very new and we appreciate her efforts. We do wonder if she learned anything from today. Her brute force strength of pushing the smaller Ambra around would have worked greatly in her favor.

Push her around, then fall on top of her. Keep saying that over and over.

Keep going for headlocks, tighten, take down and fall on top of her.

Ambra’s domination results were strictly about great strategy.
