November 4, 2022,

Wearing these more often will help prevent injuries in our fully competitive female submission wrestling industry.

Even if we find it less sexy and let’s face it, in our private industry, sexy is good.

Sexy is desired.

Like cheerleading, balance between sexy and health should be a goal.

Compression tights can help find that balance.

Compression garments are pieces of clothing that fit tightly around the skin.

The idea is extra support.

These athletic garments can come in varying degrees of compression, and higher degree compression sleeves, such as sleeves that provide compression of 20–30 mmHg or higher, typically require a doctor’s prescription.

Compression garments worn on the legs can help prevent deep vein thrombosis and reduce swelling, especially while traveling or competing.

We know of someone in our circle, when she jogs, who wears compression wear around her thighs to help prevent groin injuries.

Compression sportswear, which may include shirts, shorts, sleeves, socks or underwear, is usually worn by athletes who wish to enhance performance or injury recovery speed.

Garments are form-fitting garments often made from a spandex-type material.

Compression shorts and tights are usually worn by female athletes.

They are form-fitting garments and cover the wearer’s waist to mid or lower thigh, similar to cycling shorts. Too, Compression shorts are also popular among female athletes, especially amongst those who wear skirts or kilts during games. In those situations, athletes wear compression shorts under the skirt so if they fall over and their skirts ride up, their underwear will not be exposed. This is seen particularly in women’s lacrosse and field hockey.

For female wrestlers, our focus is protecting hamstring and groin injuries.

Where can we find some of the latest compression thigh supports?

Amazon of course.

Here is what a few manufacturers are saying.

“The Zensah Thigh Compression Sleeve helps to provide stabilization and support to the upper leg in the quad and hamstring area. The thigh sleeve features advanced compression technology that helps to improve circulation, decreasing muscle recovery time.

Whether a runner using the thigh sleeve for hamstring support or a cyclist using the thigh sleeve for improved muscle recovery, all athletes are able to benefit from the Zensah Compression Thigh Sleeve.”

So, who is Zensah?

They share, “Zensah was founded with a mission that still drives us today: to help athletes of all levels reach their ultimate performance while in ultimate comfort! The company is based in South Florida and was founded in 2004. The name is derived from the Italian word ‘Senza’ – meaning ‘to be without’ – because we believe athletes should be without limits. This mantra inspires us each and every day to create the most cutting-edge sports apparel.”

Sounds great.

And another.

“Recommended by trainers and doctors, Sparthos thigh sleeves will provide relief from injuries around the thigh, hamstrings, quadriceps, and groin areas.

Created for extra stability and support, Sparthos Thigh Sleeve will compress the thigh stimulating blood flow and delivering more oxygen. These are the key factors of fast recovery. Tear through your workout without slowing down.

Tight and discreet Sparthos thigh sleeve fits like a second skin. Crafted from top quality breathable yarn, with silicon strips to keep the sleeve just in the right place. No slipping or rolling off.”

The no rolling off would be extremely important during your match.

It’s time to go into more depth. We have a visiting writer that speaks to the importance of wearing compression wear during your athletic performance.

Compression Gear Clothing To Enhance Recovery & Performance

By Dan Levesque

For athletes that train at a high level, even the smallest advantage can make a huge difference. There are few vitamins, nutritional supplements, joint supports or additional accessories that make huge noticeable differences in athletic performance, but it all helps. Compression sports clothing like shorts, leggings and shirts are similar, however act to improve several aspects of both activity and recuperation, making them a very powerful tool. Compression clothing made of stretchy spandex material puts a slight pressure on the skin and acts to stimulate blood flow. This is great for a faster warm-up and more efficient lactic-acid/post-set toxin removal system. No matter what type of sports you participate in, recovering faster after each set means getting more and more out of each training session. Athletic tights also offer extra support for the joints including the hips, knees, shoulders and/or elbows. More stability means better injury prevention leading to more confident motion for a better overall performance.

Anabolic steroids are banned substances from most competitive athletics because of their performance enhancing effects. However in actuality, these substances help build muscles by producing more an anti-catabolic effects rather than anabolic. This refers to the action of how they help build muscle; steroids act more to speed up recovery/reduce the breakdown of muscle rather than actually building it. When trying to enhance athletic performance, this is a good lesson to follow when searching for other natural, legal substances whether it be nutritional supplements, training tools or regimens. Wearing compression clothing as a pre-habilitative training measure is a great way to aid the body for speeding up recovery. Wearing compression shorts, leggings or spandex material shirts is a great way to reduce the amount of lactic acid build-up and resulting soreness that follows hard sessions. Fortunately, this apparel continues to work in the same fashion when you wear it after you leave the gym. The compression on the skin from the tightness of the fabric will continue to push out lactic acid and bring in new nutrients to heal your muscles faster.

Besides the obvious benefits of wearing tightly compressed material, you can get even more out of these garments with added technology! The latest concept is high tech moisture wicking spandex fabric that has been infused with certain elements and nutrients. When these come in contact with the skin, the body improves with less inflammation and accelerated recovery. Products such as this are available from Tommie Copper and a company called Virus. Tommie Copper compression clothing has copper infused within the fabric to help reduce pain and swelling in the joints, allowing athletes to train and recover with much less pain. If you have less pain when training you will get more out of each session producing better gains and a more consistent performance. Tommie Copper compression gear is allowing older athletes whose joint aches and pains have slowed them a halt to continue training and competing longer.

Virus athletic compression gear offers several lines of performance wear including their ‘bioceramic’ technology. This new innovative concept is seen in compression shirts, leggings and shorts made with fabric infused with a mineral compound mined from deep pockets in the ocean. When this organic compound is applied to the skin, it rejuvenates the body and counteracts fatigue by acting as an antioxidant and aids to the recovery of nerves and muscles. Studies show this technology helps fight the pain and inflammation of arthritis and helps remove toxicities in the human body. While Virus Bioceramic compression clothing is great to train in, it’s best use is perhaps afterwards, to be worn during rest time for faster and better recovery.

Besides the ground breaking recuperation benefits from their Bioceramic line, Virus also has compression sports clothing for other uses as well. Their Cool Jade series feature compression fabric with recycled jade shavings woven into the material using nano technology. Testing has proven when used on the skin, Virus Cool Jade compression gear reduce skin temperature 6-10 degrees, making it very effective for training/competing in high temperature climates. Virus also features a line of compression sportswear designed to raise the body’s temperature for help with faster, more complete warm-ups and performing in cold weather. This series uses fabric that has been infused with coffee charcoal (made from recycled coffee beans). Studies show when this substance comes in contact with the body it will trap heat; the skin will raise its temperature as much as 10 degrees. Virus also produces another line of clothing called XForm made with extra support in the upper back to help improve posture for better body mechanics and resulting improved oxygenation.

Whether you’re looking for the extra joint support or just want a slimmer, shape enhancing appearance, compression clothing is a great buy. With the latest technologies, you can take your performance to the next level by wearing cool Virus or Tommie Copper active wear for a noticeable edge. Wearing compression gear with minerals infused into the fabric to help reduce pain and inflammation will allow harder training resulting in better gains. Compression recovery wear that helps remove toxins and rejuvenates muscles and nerves should be part of every athlete’s arsenal of pre-habilitative training supplements. When your legs are sore from hard training, wear Virus Bioceramic compression pants for faster and better recovery. Do the same thing for the upper body and you will show up fresher for the next session. Tailor your compression clothing to help you counteract the effects of a harsh training environment; wear Virus Cool Jade clothing to keep you comfortable in hot climates and Coffee Charcoal gear for training in colder temperatures.
