April 4, 2023,

There is nothing more exhilarating than reviewing a fully competitive female submission wrestling video where the lesser skilled wrestler hangs in there, fighting a more talented, experienced or stronger grappler and her opponent makes a mistake, she seizes the opportunity, applies the right choke and the superior warrior taps out.

Bravo. Well done.

The opposite is true as well.

We have seen countless videos where one female wrestler makes a mistake and her opponent let’s her off the hook. Time and time again.

While we are not MMA trained experts, we have reviewed thousands of female wrestling videos and we will share our experience with you before we turn it over to the experts.

First, let’s look at the three basic chokes.

The rear naked choke is a chokehold in martial arts applied from an opponent’s back.

The word “naked” in this context suggests that, unlike other strangulation techniques found in jujutsu and judo, this hold does not require the use of a training uniform.

The choke has two variations.

In one version, the attacker’s arm encircles the opponent’s neck and then grabs their own biceps on the other arm. In the second version, the attacker clasps their hands together instead after encircling the opponent’s neck.

Recent studies have shown that the rear-naked choke takes an average of 8.9 seconds to render an opponent unconscious regardless of the grip that is used.

From our extensive video viewing, the moment your opponent gives up her back or turns her back to you, immediately apply this choke. Don’t hesitate or over think it. Just do it.

As you pull her backwards, marry this to a behind the back or even better, roll her on her side and apply a scissor as well.

She only has two hands.

It is impossible for her to defend from above, parting your arms at her neck, and trying to pry your legs apart at her waist.

Next up is the Guillotine Choke.

The Guillotine Choke or front naked choke, compared to the rear naked choke, is a chokehold in martial arts applied from in front of the opponent, often on the ground but can also be done while standing.

Trust us, the ground in better.

The choke involves using the arms to encircle the opponent’s neck in a fashion similar to a guillotine.

When do you seize the opportunity here?

In our extensive video viewing, the moment your opponent’s head is below your chin region and they are coming towards you or just fell out of a hold or engagement, immediately apply it. This is the time to use your body for extra leverage, as they are below, and you are on top.

One more.

A Triangle Choke is a type of figure-four chokehold that encircles the opponent’s neck and one arm with the legs in a configuration similar to the shape of a triangle.

Applying pressure using both legs and the opponent’s own shoulder, the technique is a type of lateral vascular restraint that constricts the blood flow from the carotid arteries to the brain, potentially resulting in loss of consciousness in seconds when applied correctly.

Recent studies have shown that the triangle choke takes an average of 9.5 seconds to render an opponent unconscious from the moment it is properly applied.

Ironically, in this situation, you may have made the mistake and that is why you are flat on your back. Still, they did not take advantage of the situation and now you can. This positioning seems to occur after you tried a floor to kneeling or sitting body scissor and you didn’t submit them.

In today’s female grappling world, where our beautiful women are working out constantly at the gym and performing extensive stomach exercises, you are rarely going to submit them from the floor with a scissor.

Very rare.

If your back is to the floor, try a secure an arm grab, pull them forward and then apply the Triangle Choke.

There you have it. That is from our viewing experience.

Our last major word of caution is, in the female submission wrestling industry, though the women are paid to wrestle, this is still for recreational purposes and never should the chokes be applied to hurt someone.

Seize the opportunity, go slow, take it easy and above all, get the proper training at your local MMA gym or studio.

Make sense so far?

Okay, time to walk over to the bookstore and receive some instruction from an expert on the most applied choke and other MMA techniques.

Tapped Out: Rear Naked Chokes, the Octagon, and the Last Emperor: An Odyssey in Mixed Martial Arts Hardcover – November 17, 2011

By Matthew Polly (Author)

“Since the first Ultimate Fighting Championship in 1993, mixed martial arts (MMA) has punched, kicked, and wrestled its way into the public’s consciousness. MMA is an often brutal sport that combines any and every unarmed fighting technique with pure grit. Today, the gross yearly profits of Ultimate Fighting Championship-the sport’s premier professional league-exceed that of professional wrestling, boxing, and even the Boston Red Sox. In Tapped Out, Matthew Polly gives readers his on-the ground take of training and fighting in MMA.

At the age of thirty-six, Polly was out of shape and totally unprepared for what was ahead: a grueling journey through leading MMA training facilities in Bangkok, St. Petersburg, Rio de Janeiro, New York, and Las Vegas. After being utterly beaten down and built back up, he fought his first match against a fighter nearly fifteen years younger-and not only won, but sent his opponent to the hospital.

Polly intersperses his own narrative with the history and background of fighting and interviews with top UFC stars such as GSP, Fedor Emelianenko, Randy Couture, and Gina Carano. Evocative of George Plimpton’s classic Paper Lion, Polly’s honest, funny, and eye-opening account of his experiences will appeal to the millions of devoted MMA fans who are as hardcore as the sport itself.”

Well stated.

Appreciate hearing from an expert and a champion.

So, the next time you are ready to grapple, always remember, no matter how good your opponent, she will make a mistake. When she does?

Make your carefully applied choke count.
