On October 10, 2023, as reported by wrestlinginc.com, “Hikaru Shida made history on “AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday,” defeating Saraya and becoming the first-ever three-time AEW Women’s World Champion.”
Major congrats.
She also holds the record for the title’s longest reign at 372 days, which she accomplished during her first reign.
Lady Pro wrestling is alive and well.
Who is Hikaru Shida?
Hikaru is a Japanese professional wrestler, martial artist, actress, and model.
She is signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where she is the current AEW Women’s World Champion in her record setting third reign. In Japan, she wrestles for Oz Academy and Pro Wrestling Wave.
Our luminary started her professional wrestling career in 2008, when she joined the Ice Ribbon promotion, after taking part in a film titled Three Count, set in the world of professional wrestling.
She can definitely multi-task.
In the world of the lady pros, Hikaru is one to watch.

NEW BEACH WRESTLING STAR
Summer has ended but there is always a sunny beach in the world.
That is a great thing. For sunbathing, sight-seeing and something very competitive.
Beach Wrestling.
It is sanctioned.
For the first time in 2004, during the International United Wrestling Federation (FILA), beach wrestling was registered as a type of wrestling.
Beach wrestling is a sport type in which both men and women can participate. Athletes compete in an inner sand-filled circle with a diameter of 7 meters. Unlike regular wrestling, athletes participating in this type of wrestling wear swimsuits, not wrestling clothes. They can also use spandex or sports shorts.
In 2015, the International Federation of United Wrestling (FILA) amended the international rules. Under the new rules, wrestlers can score by knocking an opponent down, out of the ring, or on their back.
In addition to the annual World Beach Wrestling Championships, beach wrestling has featured in the Youth Olympic Games, Asian Games, Mediterranean Games and the 2019 World Beach Games.
The World Beach Wrestling Championship has been held in series for the first time since 2019.
One of the current rising stars is Indian Hills freshman Eliana Bommarito, who earned a spot in the UWW Beach Wrestling World Championships, winning two straight matches over Isabeau Shalack at The Kraken Beach Wrestling Championships at Lake Rathbun.
She is a great collegiate wrestler.

WOMEN’S WRESTLING MOVIE IN THE WORKS
As posted by wlky.com, “Another movie is taking over Louisville, and this time, it’s a period piece about wrestling. The film began filming within the past month, and sets have been popping up all over the Metro.”

What is it about?
The movie is based on a book about Mildred “Millie” Burke, a famous wrestler in the early to mid-1900s.
Who is Mildred Burke?
Mildred Burke (August 5, 1915 – February 18, 1989) was an American professional wrestler. She is overall a three-time women’s world champion under different incarnations and recognitions.
Ms. Burke’s heyday lasted from the mid-1930s to the mid-1950s, when she held the NWA World Women’s Champion for almost twenty years.
She started out in 1935, wrestling men at carnivals. She was managed by her second husband, promoter Billy Wolfe.
She is a charter member of WWE Hall of Fame’s Legacy Wing, Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, Women’s Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame.
What we remember about her was that she was one of the first beautiful muscle girls who worked out in the gym and dominated other lady pros who did not.
The main character will be played by Emily Bett Rickards.
Emily Bett Rickards is a Canadian actress.
She is known for her role as Felicity Smoak on The CW series Arrow, her first television credit. She has also reprised the role in the Arrowverse shows The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl and voiced the character on the animated web series Vixen.
Outstanding.
Milfred Burke was one of the great pioneers of the women’s wrestling industry. We always hoped that one day her legacy would be showcased on film.

RETIREMENT FUND FOR MMA FIGHTERS
As reported by the global news source CNN on October 11, 2023, “A first-of-its-kind retirement fund for MMA fighters was signed into law Sunday in California by Gov. Gavin Newsom, per a news release Tuesday. The new law will go into effect beginning Jan. 1, 2024, according to California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) executive officer Andy Foster.”
Who would have thought?
That is fantastic news for MMA Fighters, including the women we admire so much.
